Woodcutting the Wetlands - A printmaking workshop with Owen Hutchison
October 2015
This workshop was made possible with funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund (a joint initiative between the Arts Council of Australia and the South Burnett Shire Council).
The workshop was tutored by Owen Hutchison, a qualified artist from Sandgate in Brisbane. Owen brought along a display of his work which we all enjoyed viewing and discussing the processes he used to create them. During the workshop we learnt how to prepare both linoleum and plywood blocks, and how to transfer the prints on to multiple blocks to then carve to make three colour prints. We learnt how to mix the basic printing inks to attain the colours we wanted for our prints and then went on to make test prints. The photo below is some of the work completed during the workshop.

Silk Painting, Mosaics and Printmaking
September and October
During the September Silk painting workshop some members honed up their silk painting skills whilst others had their first go at it, experimenting with gutta and salt effects. The mosaic day in October saw some members working with mosaics and others working on their printmaking.

Research trip to Wooroolin Wetlands
July 2015
I think we chose the coldest day in the South Burnett this year to meet at the Wooroolin Wetlands! The aim of the visit was to start compiling ideas, inspiration and images towards our printmaking workshop which is planned for October, with the Wooroolin Wetlands as the theme. Although it was cold, and in the middle of winter there were quite a few different birds enjoying the wetlands. It was a lovely relaxing day and we all enjoyed the added bonus of visiting with Diana at her home which is nearby.

Drawing Day
July, 2015
We decided to have an extra day this month and experiment with some charcoal using the reduction method. Everyone set up their own still life and after Donna gave a brief explanation of how to do it, members and guests got busy and there were some lovely results. Diana also gave some good hints about setting up a still life and demonstrated how a cardboard box and a lamp could be used to help with direction of light and shadows. We all enjoyed having some guests come and join us for the day.

Rugmaking Workshop
June, 2015
A rugmaking workshop was held for our June meeting. The workshop was tutored by Judith Brook who has many years experience in the craft. Three different methods were demonstrated to us at the workshop. Judith had on display some antique rug patterns and some very interesting tools, along with some lovely examples of her craft.

Exhibition "Encounters"
May 2015
Our major exhibition for the year was held at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery for the Month of May. The theme for the exhibition was "Encounters", with each artist interpretting the theme individually. The very successful opening night was held on the 8th of May and was well attended and enjoyed by locals and visitors to the region. Melody Cook was the organiser for the event this year.
As you can see from the photos there were a large variety of artforms used: ceramics, silversmithing, textiles, acrylic, watercolour, oils, mixed media, printmaking, bookbinding and sculpting.
People's Choice Award
This year's People's Choice Award was won by Fay Stumm with her Ceramic work titled "Entwined." (Pictured to the left and below.)

Mosaic Workshop
February 2015
A mosaic workshop was held over two days, where we mosaicked two stepping stones and a pot. Two different methods of mosaicking were used, direct method and indirect method. The stepping stones were mosaicked with broken ceramic tiles and the pot was done with broken crockery. Our tutor was Donna Flynn.
