Funky Teapots

July 2012

Funky Teapots was  part of a multi-layered initiative which was conducted with a grant from by the Regional Arts Development Fund. Under the guidance and tuition of well known ceramic artist Suvira McDonald MA, groups and organisations were invited to form teams to create a unique slab teapot. These were later judged and exhibited during the Tea and Tractors Exhibition in September (part of Kingaroy’s Inaugural Tractor Tattoo). Team teapots along with several funky teapots donated by JAA members were  later auctioned for charity, raising in excess of $1000.

As part of the initiative, two 3-day workshops were held with participants exploring the art of slab construction, forming and surfacing; and glazing and reduction firing. Community members joined in the fun, each making and taking home their funky teapots.
